IndiGo launches Chennai–Réunion direct flights

IndiGo will commence direct flights between Chennai and Réunion Island from April 29, 2026, operating three weekly services (Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday). This marks a significant step in strengthening air connectivity between India and the Indian Ocean region.

The new route supports Réunion’s strategic focus on the Indian market, positioning the island as an accessible premium destination for Indian travellers. Backed by Réunion Island Tourism Board and Atout France India, the initiative aims to build long-term visibility and engagement with Indian travel trade stakeholders.

As a destination, Réunion offers a diverse mix of experiences, including adventure tourism such as hiking, canyoning, and paragliding, alongside aerial activities like helicopter tours. Marine experiences such as diving and snorkelling further enhance its appeal for experiential travellers.

Iconic attractions such as Piton de la Fournaise and the Pitons, Cirques and Remparts of Réunion Island add strong experiential value, aligning with the preferences of high-spending Indian tourists seeking unique and immersive travel.

From a B2B perspective, the strategy is built on three pillars: improved air access via IndiGo, strengthened partnerships with Indian travel agents and DMCs, and the development of customised travel experiences tailored to Indian preferences.

Overall, the Chennai–Réunion route enhances outbound travel options, supports destination diversification, and reinforces India’s growing importance as a key source market for global tourism boards.
