Navi Mumbai Airport sees flight surge

The Navi Mumbai International Airport has witnessed a sharp rise in flight operations, with nearly 70% of all departing flights dominated by IndiGo, according to April data.

This strong airline participation has significantly boosted airport activity, with daily departures increasing fourfold—from around 20 flights in March to nearly 80 flights in April. The rapid growth highlights early momentum for the newly operational airport.

IndiGo’s aggressive expansion strategy at the airport has played a crucial role in driving traffic, allowing it to take a commanding lead over competitors in terms of flight frequency and network presence.

However, not all airlines are aligned with this transition. The Air India group has raised concerns regarding shifting operations to the new airport, citing higher tariffs and increased operational complexity.

A key challenge highlighted is the possibility of split operations between NMIAL and the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which could lead to increased costs and logistical inefficiencies for airlines.

Additionally, concerns around connectivity, including road infrastructure and access, remain critical factors that could influence how quickly other airlines expand operations at Navi Mumbai Airport in the coming months.
