Tourism Malaysia Mumbai appoints Haryanty Abu Bakar as Director

Tourism Malaysia Mumbai has appointed Haryanty Abu Bakar as its Director, effective 13 April 2026. In this role, she will lead Malaysia’s tourism promotion and market development initiatives across Western and Central India, as well as the Maldives.

Haryanty will drive strategic efforts to position Malaysia as a top destination for Indian travellers, showcasing its wide range of offerings—from dynamic urban experiences and premium shopping to serene beaches, family-oriented attractions, and rich cultural heritage. With enhanced connectivity and customized travel experiences, Malaysia continues to provide strong value and memorable journeys for visitors from India.

Malaysia surpassed its 2025 tourism goal, recording 42.2 million international visitor arrivals—an 11.2% increase over 2024. India remains a key source market, contributing significantly to this success and playing a vital role as the country ramps up efforts for Visit Malaysia 2026. The extension of visa-free entry for Indian nationals has further boosted travel confidence and accessibility, supported by a strong lineup of major and signature events planned nationwide under VM2026.

With extensive experience across both international and domestic tourism sectors, Haryanty brings a balanced combination of strategic leadership and market expertise. She previously served as Director of Tourism Malaysia in Sabah, where she supported the region’s growth as a prominent nature and adventure destination. Earlier, as Deputy Director in Jakarta, she strengthened ties with Indonesian travel trade partners to increase inbound tourism to Malaysia, while also gaining deeper insights into the ASEAN tourism landscape.
