A new ferry service has been launched at Mulshi Dam in Maharashtra, significantly improving connectivity between remote villages. Introduced by local authorities on April 27, 2026, the service connects Mulshi with Waghwadi, reducing travel distance by nearly 25 kilometres.
The initiative is expected to benefit residents across 16 villages in the region, including areas like Shirgaon, Vadgaon, and Bhadas Khonda. For many of these communities, daily commutes involved long detours due to the dam and surrounding hilly terrain. The ferry now offers a direct and efficient transport option.
Apart from saving time, the service enhances access to essential facilities such as schools, healthcare centres, markets, and government services. This is particularly important in rural areas where infrastructure development is often limited by geographical challenges.
The ferry has been introduced as a practical alternative to road construction, which is difficult in this terrain. By leveraging the existing water body, authorities have created a cost-effective and sustainable transport solution for local residents.
Affordable pricing has been a key focus of the service. Fares are set at INR 20 for adults, INR 10 for children, and INR 50 for transporting motorcycles, making it accessible for daily use by villagers.
Located about 44 km from Pune, Mulshi is already known for its scenic beauty and eco-tourism appeal. The ferry service is expected to further boost tourism in the region while improving everyday life for its residents.
