India’s growing importance within global aviation networks continues to drive international expansion plans, with premium carriers increasingly targeting high-yield business and technology corridors. Swiss International Air Lines has now announced direct connectivity between Bengaluru and Zurich, strengthening Lufthansa Group’s presence in southern India.
Swiss International Air Lines will launch five weekly nonstop flights between Bengaluru and Zurich from October 2026, offering travellers from India’s technology capital expanded access to Europe and North America through the Lufthansa Group network.
Bengaluru becomes SWISS’s latest Indian destination and the airline’s third Lufthansa Group gateway from the city, alongside Frankfurt and Munich.
The airline said the new route has been introduced to meet rising demand from business travellers, technology professionals, premium leisure passengers, and the Indian diaspora travelling between India and Europe.
Lufthansa Group expands India strategy
The new route reinforces Lufthansa Group’s broader growth strategy in India, which remains one of the fastest-growing outbound and corporate travel markets globally.
Kevin Markette, Senior Director – Regional Sales South Asia, Lufthansa Group, said, “India remains a strategically important market for the Lufthansa Group, and we are delighted to welcome Swiss International Air Lines to Bengaluru – one of the world’s leading technology and innovation hubs.”
He added, “As our third Lufthansa Group gateway from the city, alongside Frankfurt and Munich, this new SWISS service significantly enhances connectivity for travellers from southern India. Customers can now enjoy a truly premium Swiss travel experience – including First Class on every flight – combined with seamless access to Europe and North America via our Zurich hub.”
According to the airline, passengers on the new route will have access to SWISS First, Business, and Economy Class cabins, premium lounge facilities, Swiss cuisine onboard, and onward connectivity through Zurich Airport.
Bengaluru strengthens long-haul connectivity
The launch also underlines Bengaluru’s growing role as a long-haul international aviation hub driven by corporate travel demand, technology sector expansion, and rising premium outbound traffic.
Girish Nair, Chief Operating Officer, Bangalore International Airport Limited, said, “The introduction of SWISS’ direct BLR–ZRH service is a strong validation of the market maturity and long-term potential that Bengaluru continues to demonstrate.”
He added, “This non-stop link meets surging corporate and leisure demand, connecting India’s Silicon Valley with a premier global financial capital.”
Nair also noted that Bengaluru Airport’s domestic network spanning 78 destinations would support single-ticket connectivity for travellers from Tier 2 and Tier 3 Indian cities.
Lufthansa Group said it will operate more than 70 weekly flights to and from India during the Winter 2026 schedule through its portfolio of airlines, further strengthening connectivity between India and Europe.
