Air New Zealand has announced expanded connectivity between India and New Zealand through increased flight capacity and improved access via Singapore. The airline revealed plans to introduce a new Singapore-Christchurch route that will complement its existing Auckland-Singapore services during the upcoming peak travel season. According to the airline, the new service is part of a broader network expansion strategy aimed at meeting rising travel demand across Asia-Pacific markets. The Christchurch route will operate three times a week and is expected to provide more than 34,000 seats during the season. Air New Zealand Chief Executive Nikhil Ravishankar explained that the airline is witnessing strong two-way demand between India and New Zealand across multiple travel segments. According to Ravishankar, increasing flight capacity through Singapore allows the airline to offer more convenient schedules, improved connections and additional choices for travellers. Aviation analysts believe Singapore continues to strengthen its role as a major international transit hub connecting India with destinations across Oceania and the Asia-Pacific region through expanded airline partnerships and route networks.
The introduction of direct Christchurch services is expected to improve accessibility to New Zealand’s South Island, which remains one of the country’s most popular tourism regions. Air New Zealand stated that passengers travelling to Christchurch will avoid the need for multiple domestic connections after arriving in New Zealand. The airline also highlighted the strength of its domestic network, which allows travellers to connect quickly from Christchurch and Auckland to eighteen additional destinations across the country. Industry experts believe simplified domestic connectivity is becoming increasingly important for international tourists seeking multi-city travel experiences. The Christchurch-Singapore route will be operated using Air New Zealand’s retrofitted Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for the first time on this sector. According to the airline, the upgraded aircraft feature redesigned Business Premier seating, a completely new Premium Economy experience and refreshed Economy Class cabins. Additional improvements include upgraded inflight entertainment systems and enhanced comfort features for long-haul passengers. Aviation analysts note that airlines are increasingly investing in premium cabin upgrades and improved passenger experiences to attract long-distance travellers in competitive international markets. Air New Zealand confirmed that flights on the new route are already available for booking, with operations scheduled to begin from October 2026 and continue through the Northern Hemisphere winter season, subject to regulatory approvals. Between October 28 and November 27, 2026, flights from Christchurch to Singapore will operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing Christchurch at 17:20 and arriving in Singapore at 22:55. The return service from Singapore to Christchurch will depart at 00:40 and arrive at 15:35 on the same operating days. From November 30, 2026 until March 26, 2027, the return Singapore-Christchurch service will operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday instead of Sunday during most of the season.
