In a major boost to international tourism, the Bihar cabinet has officially cleared a proposal allowing IndiGo Airlines to operate direct flights between Gaya and Bangkok. The non-stop service, greenlit for an initial 12-month period, aims to seamlessly connect Southeast Asian travellers to India’s prominent Buddhist circuit.
Chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the cabinet approved a viability gap funding of ₹10.40 crore to ensure the route’s early launch. Officials anticipate the direct link will drastically increase footfall in Bodh Gaya, providing a welcome economic lift to local hospitality, transport, and handicraft sectors.
