Domestic air traffic saw 4.2% dip in April compared to March with just 1.38 crore pax: DGCA

India’s domestic aviation sector saw passenger traffic decline in April, with airlines carrying just over 1.38 crore flyers, according to the latest data by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The figure was down 4.2 per cent from March’s traffic of 1.44 crore passengers and 3.47 per cent lower than the 1.43 crore passengers flown in April last year.

Domestic carriers transported 575.49 lakh passengers between January and April 2026, registering marginal annual growth of 0.06 per cent compared to the same period last year. The slowdown comes as airlines grapple with multiple challenges, including softer travel demand, higher fuel costs, and network adjustments aimed at managing operational pressures.
