Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced the signing of a Taj hotel in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, further expanding its presence in one of India’s leading leisure destinations. The 105-key project will restore a historic heritage property while adding luxury hospitality offerings to the hill town’s tourism landscape.
The brownfield project is being developed in partnership with Atman Resort & Cottages LLP and has scope for future expansion. The signing strengthens IHCL’s growing portfolio in Himachal Pradesh, where the company currently has 27 hotels, including 12 under development.
Commenting on the development, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said, “Shaped by its spiritual significance and evolving tourism demand, Dharamshala attracts a diverse mix of travellers. Heritage property to be restored
The hotel will offer views of the Dhauladhar mountain range and the surrounding valley. A key feature of the project is the restoration of the heritage wing, historically known as White Haven Estate, which served as the Viceroy’s summer residence during the late 1800s.
The property will include an all-day dining restaurant, two speciality restaurants, a bar, and a lobby lounge. Wellness and recreation facilities will comprise an indoor temperature-controlled swimming pool, fitness centre, and J Wellness Circle spa.
For meetings, events, and social gatherings, the hotel will feature a banquet hall, terrace venue, pre-function areas, and meeting rooms.
Strengthening tourism infrastructure
Dharamshala remains one of Himachal Pradesh’s most prominent tourism destinations, known for its natural surroundings, spiritual significance, and adventure tourism offerings. The town is home to the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and attractions including Namgyal Monastery, Bhagsu Waterfall, Dal Lake, and Triund.
Commenting on the partnership, Sahil Sharma, Partner, Atman Resort & Cottages LLP, Sadhna Sharma, Partner, Atman Resort & Cottages LLP, and Mrinal Sneh Singh, Partner, Atman Resort & Cottages LLP, said, “We are pleased to partner with IHCL to revive this heritage property.
