Andhra Pradesh to introduce AI guides at tourist sites

The Andhra Pradesh government has signed a three-year agreement with Indian travel-tech company Explurger to deploy its multilingual conversational platform, NiVU AI, at more than 100 tourist destinations across the state. The initiative is expected to make Andhra Pradesh the first state in India to offer AI-powered tourist guides at its attractions.

Under the agreement, NiVU AI will be introduced at temples, beaches, forts, heritage monuments and natural attractions. Visitors will be able to access the AI guide by scanning QR codes placed at tourist sites, without the need to download an application.

The platform will provide information on the history, culture, religious significance and key highlights of each destination through voice or text in more than 130 Indian and international languages. It will also recommend nearby attractions based on visitors’ interests, enhancing the overall travel experience.

The statewide rollout follows the successful pilot at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple and Sri Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Mangalagiri. Officials said the pilot received positive feedback from both pilgrims and temple authorities.

The first phase will see the AI guide launched at 30 flagship tourist sites during the first year, with coverage expanding to more than 100 locations by the end of the three-year agreement. The initiative supports the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Policy 2024-29 and the Swarna Andhra Vision-2047.

Besides assisting visitors, the AI platform will generate real-time insights on language preferences, visitor queries and travel patterns. The Tourism Department plans to use this data to improve destination planning, policy formulation and tourism services across the state.
