In a landmark move to support its aggressive fleet expansion, IndiGo is set to place an order for over 1,000 LEAP-1A aircraft engines with CFM International, marking one of the largest engine deals in global aviation.
The order, formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), was announced at the Farnborough International Airshow. The engines will power 510 Airbus A320neo family aircraft that form a significant part of IndiGo’s future fleet.
The deal is expected to become the largest single order for LEAP engines in CFM International’s history. CFM is a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.
This development aligns with IndiGo’s long-term growth strategy, following its record order of 500 Airbus A320neo family aircraft in 2023, as the airline continues to strengthen its position as one of the fastest-growing carriers globally.
In addition to engine supply, the agreement also includes plans to explore setting up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in India, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the airline’s expanding fleet.
The move comes amid ongoing global supply chain challenges in the aviation sector, with airlines increasingly securing long-term engine availability and maintenance support to avoid operational disruptions.
