Suman Billa, Additional Secretary & Director General, Ministry of Tourism, unveiled a 7-point roadmap to position India as a global wedding tourism destination through stronger policy support and government-industry collaboration. The roadmap focuses on recognising the celebration economy, developing purpose-built celebration destinations, expanding weddings beyond traditional locations, promoting local culture, professionalising the industry, embedding sustainability, and strengthening partnerships. “If we have to realise the potential of wedding tourism, the first thing we should do is by recognising the possibilities of a celebration economy. We need to recognise that this is a strategic economic sector, we need to measure it, we need to analyse it, and we need to build a policy framework around it to make it sensible,” Billa said.
