Sarawak Tourism Board is looking to deepen its engagement with India, which it considers one of its top and fastest-growing source markets, by strengthening connectivity, airline partnerships, and trade engagement. Speaking at PATA Travel Mart in Kuching, Dr SharzedeSalleh Askor, CEO, Sarawak Tourism Board, said the destination is working through regional hubs and collaborating with airlines in the absence of direct flights, while AirBorneo could provide additional opportunities. “India has been a very important market for us. It is one of the top of our numbers coming in and it is growing very well,” she said. “We have been in India, SATTE, ITB India and a lot of trade shows going to India.”
She added that Sarawak is still learning how to better cater to Indian travellers, particularly through its culinary offering. “We must have good chefs, good Indian restaurants, so all of these are still a learning curve for us,” she said, adding, “Inshallah, we believe that we will not forget India because it is a market as good as China.”
