Airbus has awarded Mahindra Aerostructures a contract to manufacture fuselage skins for the A320neo Family, strengthening India’s role in global aerospace manufacturing and advancing Airbus’ ‘Make in India’ commitment.
Under the multi-year contract, Mahindra Aerostructures will manufacture fuselage skins for Sections 18 and 19—the rear fuselage and tail sections—from its Bengaluru facility. The components will be supplied to Airbus Aerostructures’ manufacturing facility in Augsburg, Germany.
The scope includes eight fuselage skins for Section 18 and three for Section 19. Mahindra will expand its manufacturing capabilities through advanced chemical milling, surface treatment and stretch-forming production lines, with the latter being a critical process for producing aircraft skin panels.
Initial manufacturing engineering activities, including tooling design, process updates, qualification and inspection, are already underway, with final deliveries targeted for 2028. The programme is expected to introduce advanced stretch-forming capabilities in India and build critical aerospace manufacturing expertise.
The contract builds on the growing Airbus-Mahindra partnership, which also includes contracts for H125 and H130 helicopter fuselage manufacturing and assembly, as well as components and sub-assemblies for Airbus commercial aircraft programmes.
Airbus currently sources more than USD 1.6 billion worth of components and services annually from India and expects this to exceed USD 2 billion before the end of the decade. The company has also established C295 and H125 helicopter Final Assembly Lines in India, alongside investments in pilot training and broader aerospace capabilities.
