Tourism Malaysia is strengthening its promotional activities in India through its participation in Melange 3.0 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. The initiative forms part of the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 (VM2026–2027) campaign, which aims to showcase the country’s tourism attractions, distinctive experiences and upcoming events to Indian travellers.
Tourism Malaysia participated in the travel trade event alongside the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) and the Malaysian Indian Tourism and Travel Association (MITTA). The delegation brought together eight Malaysian tourism stakeholders, including tour operators, hoteliers and representatives of tourist attractions, to explore business opportunities and strengthen connections with India’s travel trade community.
The participation focused on building trade partnerships, introducing new tourism products and positioning Malaysia as a preferred destination for Indian visitors. The presence of the presidents of MATTA and MITTA further highlighted the collaboration between industry organisations in expanding Malaysia’s visibility and strengthening its engagement with the Indian market.
Haryanty Abu Bakar, Director of Tourism Malaysia Mumbai, led the delegation and highlighted the importance of participating in Melange 3.0. She said the event provided an opportunity to engage with carefully selected travel trade buyers, deepen industry relationships and showcase Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings and experiences.
India continues to be a key source market for Malaysia, recording 738,709 visitors between January and June 2026. Abu Bakar noted that geopolitical developments and changes in the international travel environment could influence travel sentiment in some regions. However, Tourism Malaysia remains committed to maintaining its presence in India and strengthening the destination’s appeal among Indian travellers.
Connectivity remains an important factor in supporting travel demand. Since Malaysia introduced visa-free entry for Indian nationals in December 2023, access has been supported by 176 weekly direct flights from more than ten Indian cities as of July 2026, providing 33,412 seats per week to key gateways, including Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Through Melange 3.0 and the wider VM2026–2027 campaign, Tourism Malaysia aims to build trade engagement and encourage further growth in Indian visitor arrivals.
