India’s tourism growth could face a talent crunch, with the sector projected to see a shortfall of around 11 million workers by 2035, according to CBRE’s latest Reimagining Indian Tourism report. Tourism currently supports 84.6 million direct and indirect jobs, but demand is increasingly shifting towards specialised segments such as MICE, wellness, cruise, and guided heritage tourism. CBRE identifies a further challenge as new hotel supply expands into tier II and tier III markets, while training capacity remains concentrated in established centres. The report also flags retention issues, with trained hospitality workers moving to aviation, retail, and BPO roles.
