Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, said India’s latest Travel & Tourism Development Index ranking has improved to 31, but identified digital promotion and tourism information as a key weakness, with India ranked 91 among 130 countries on that parameter. He then said that after the National Digital Tourism Stack is implemented successfully, he expects India to enter the top 20 tourism countries in the next two years. He also noted that hotels, historically considered a low-ROI sector, have now become the “highest yielding sector” because of rising consumer spending, land appreciation, cost appreciation, and revenue growth. He directly called for greater private investment in tourism.
