The Tourism Ministry has proposed approximately US$ 156 mn over five years for international promotion, targeting high-spending visitors and a recovery in inbound tourism. Bhuvnesh Kumar, Tourism Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, said, “We asked for US$ 156 mn for the next 5 years to do international promotion and bring high paying tourists to India.”
Speaking at the PATA 56th Annual General Meeting, Kumar said the proposed funding would support targeted source-market activity and international partnerships, while helping revive the Incredible India campaign. He said, “Hopefully you get that amount, and then we can work with the international partnership and revive the Incredible India tour and go back at least to the numbers of pre-corona.” He also estimated that additional visitor spending could contribute approximately US$ 18.14 bn to the economy over five years, with potential GST revenue of about US$ 1.77 bn. These dollar figures are conversions at the 30 September 2026 exchange rate; the Secretary stated the original amounts in rupees.
