Saudi Arabia has announced a bold new step to simplify travel for Indian visitors by introducing a credit card–based tourist visa system. The initiative was highlighted by Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority and Vice Chair of TOURISE, during his address at the TOURISE event in Riyadh. His announcement marks a significant shift toward faster, easier, and more technology-driven travel processes for Indian tourists.
Hamidaddin explained that Saudi Arabia is working closely with global financial institutions and major payment networks such as Mastercard and Visa to bring this system to life. The goal is to remove traditional obstacles that often slow down visa applications and create a more user-friendly experience for millions of potential Indian travellers.
Under this new mechanism, eligible applicants will be able to secure a Saudi tourist visa using their recognised credit cards. This means there will be no requirement for embassy visits, physical fingerprinting, or submission of bank statements, making the process far more streamlined and accessible.
Hamidaddin described the move as one of the most ambitious changes undertaken in Saudi tourism policy. His message was clear: if a traveller has a recognised credit card, they will be able to obtain their visa with ease. The approach reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to reimagining the travel experience through innovation.
This initiative also highlights Saudi Arabia’s strategic focus on India as a major tourism growth market. With increasing travel demand from India, the simplified visa system is expected to significantly boost visitor numbers while strengthening connections between the two countries.
The development is part of a wider national vision to position Saudi Arabia as one of the most accessible global destinations. By leveraging technology, automation, and trusted financial partnerships, the Kingdom is working to make travel faster, smoother, and more welcoming for international travellers.
