IndiGo has officially launched its direct long-haul service connecting Mumbai and Copenhagen, Denmark, marking its debut in the Scandinavian region of Europe. This new route follows the successful start of IndiGo’s long-haul operations to Manchester and Amsterdam earlier in July 2025. With Copenhagen as its 44th international and 138th overall destination, IndiGo continues to expand its footprint across global skies, reinforcing its position as one of the fastest-growing airlines in international aviation.
The Mumbai–Copenhagen route will operate three times a week using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, leased from Norse Atlantic Airways. These aircraft feature a dual-class configuration — Economy and IndiGoStretch, the airline’s new premium seating option. With this addition, Copenhagen becomes IndiGo’s fourth European destination after Istanbul, Manchester, and Amsterdam, while routes to London and Athens are set to follow soon. The service is part of IndiGo’s broader plan to strengthen India’s connectivity with major global hubs.
This direct connection between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai and Copenhagen Airport—the busiest in Scandinavia—significantly enhances trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between India and Northern Europe. It also allows Indian travellers seamless access to destinations across the Nordic region while opening up IndiGo’s extensive domestic network of over 90 destinations to Scandinavian travellers, thus promoting bilateral growth and people-to-people exchanges.
Speaking on the launch, Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, emphasised that the Mumbai–Copenhagen route marks a major milestone in IndiGo’s global expansion journey. He described it as a “strategic gateway to the Nordic region,” enabling the airline to serve new frontiers and offer customers reliable, world-class service. He also highlighted IndiGo’s ongoing evolution from a major Indian carrier into a truly global aviation player, supported by strong partnerships such as the one with Denmark and Copenhagen Airport.
Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Ambassador of Denmark to India, welcomed the route, calling it a “tangible symbol of the strong partnership” between India and Denmark. He noted that enhanced air connectivity would deepen cultural and economic ties between the two countries, benefiting business, tourism, and education. The connection also supports the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, launched in 2020, which focuses on sustainable growth, innovation, and collaboration across multiple sectors.
Manish Prabhat, Ambassador of India to Denmark, also lauded the launch, stating that it reflects the growing demand for connectivity between the two nations. He noted that the route would not only strengthen ties between India and Denmark but also serve the broader Nordic region while facilitating onward connections from Mumbai to destinations across Asia. The Mumbai–Copenhagen service represents a significant step toward India’s expanding global aviation presence, further cementing IndiGo’s role as a key connector in international travel.
