Raising concern over the widening skill gap in the tourism and hospitality sector, Rajan Bahadur, CEO, Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), said, “India has a 5.8 million strong trainable workforce interested in tourism and hospitality careers. However, only about 1% has undergone formal training so far, which clearly highlights the gap between aspiration and structured skill development.” He highlighted that interest in the sector is high, but lack of formal training remains a major bottleneck.
