Uttar Pradesh theme state at Surajkund Crafts Mela 2026

Uttar Pradesh has been selected as the theme state for the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026, providing it with a prominent global platform to showcase its cultural richness. The internationally renowned fair will be held in Haryana from January 31 to February 14, 2026, celebrating Indian folk traditions, crafts, and heritage.

According to an official press release from the state’s information department, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department will present the state’s identity rooted in ancient civilisation, vibrant folk arts, distinctive handicrafts, handloom and textile traditions, folk music, folk dance, and regional cuisine. The aim is to highlight the creativity and skill of artisans before a global audience.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that Surajkund Mela 2026 will be special, with 40 handicraft stalls based on the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. These stalls will serve as a strong platform for promoting the state’s handicraft and handloom traditions while supporting local artisans.

Products from various districts will be showcased, including glass bangles from Firozabad, perfumes from Kannauj, black pottery from Azamgarh, and Zari-zardozi and Chikankari crafts from Varanasi, Lucknow, and Bhadohi. This wide representation reflects the diversity of Uttar Pradesh’s traditional industries.

The mela will also feature an expanded cultural programme, with five to six performances daily between 10 am and 6 pm. These will include folk dances, music, and traditional performances from Uttar Pradesh, with 50 to 100 artists participating each day. Fashion shows highlighting traditional and contemporary attire and jewellery will be organised on three weekends.

Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture Amrit Abhijat stated that eco-friendly décor, district-wise designs, special signage, and QR codes will enhance visitor engagement. Each district will act as a cultural ambassador, making the Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026 a major opportunity for Uttar Pradesh to present its folk traditions, handicraft heritage, and cultural diversity on a global stage.
