The Noida International Airport has appointed Nitu Samra as its interim Chief Executive Officer, replacing Christoph Schnellmann. The leadership change comes after regulatory requirements mandated that airport CEOs in India must be Indian nationals.
Previously serving as Chief Financial Officer since 2021, Nitu Samra has played a key role in the airport’s development, handling financial planning, governance, and strategic execution during its critical growth phase. Her appointment ensures continuity as the airport prepares to begin operations.
The transition follows directions from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, which enforces security norms, including nationality requirements for top airport leadership. This compliance step was necessary to move forward with operational approvals.
Meanwhile, Christoph Schnellmann will continue contributing to the project as Executive Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors. His role will focus on supporting the airport’s transition into full-scale operations while maintaining strategic oversight.
Developed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd under a public-private partnership with Zurich Airport International AG, the airport is one of India’s largest greenfield aviation projects. It aims to significantly boost connectivity and infrastructure in northern India.
In its first phase, the airport is designed to handle around 12 million passengers annually, with long-term plans to expand capacity to 70 million. With regulatory hurdles addressed, commercial flight operations are expected to begin soon, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation sector.
