The Shivappa Nayaka Palace, recently reopened after extensive restoration, is facing operational challenges due to a shortage of staff, affecting the overall visitor experience.
Located in Shivamogga, the palace holds historical significance and was the first monument in the state to be refurbished under the Smart Cities Mission.
Despite its renewed infrastructure, the site currently operates with minimal personnel. Visitor management has been outsourced to a single individual who is handling multiple roles, including guiding and maintenance.
Officials have requested the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage to appoint around 20 additional staff members to ensure smooth operations and improve service delivery.
There is a particular need for qualified guides, preferably with postgraduate degrees in history, to provide visitors with detailed and engaging insights into the palace’s heritage and architecture.
With rising footfall, especially during peak travel seasons, authorities are planning to initiate a tender process for staffing, aiming to enhance visitor satisfaction and operational efficiency at the site.
