Easier OCI access and streamlined processes to boost inbound travel and diaspora connect, says Ravi Gosain

India has revised Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) rules expanding eligibility, while tightening compliance norms and streamlining application processes. The move aims to simplify access for people of Indian origin while improving transparency and regulatory oversight. The changes are expected to strengthen diaspora engagement and support inbound travel growth, said Ravi Gosain, President, IATO.

“The revision of OCI rules is a positive and progressive step towards strengthening India’s engagement with its global diaspora. The move to widen eligibility and simplify application processes will make it easier for people of Indian origin to stay connected with India. At the same time, stricter compliance norms will ensure better regulation and transparency, which is important for maintaining the integrity of the system. For the inbound tourism sector, this is particularly significant as easier access and streamlined processes will encourage more frequent visits by the Indian diaspora, contributing to higher inbound travel and stronger emotional connect with India,” Gosain added.
