India’s upcoming high-speed rail network could reshape far more than transportation, with the travel trade expecting bullet train stations to emerge as new tourism, hospitality, and business clusters. Raj Bajaj, Managing Director, Perfect Travel & Tours, believes premium hotels, convention centres, retail districts, and tourism infrastructure will increasingly develop around high-speed rail terminals, mirroring successful models seen in Japan and Europe.
He said improved city-centre connectivity would encourage deeper multi-city travel while making domestic movement more efficient for international visitors, who often perceive India’s internal transfers as time-consuming.
Bajaj added that future luxury itineraries could be built around high-speed rail corridors linking major cities, creating new opportunities for destinations beyond traditional gateway cities.
He also noted that while aviation will continue to dominate long-haul routes, high-speed rail could redefine regional tourism ecosystems by attracting hospitality investments, boosting convention traffic, and encouraging longer visitor stays, opening fresh business avenues for India’s travel and tourism industry.
