The Government of Maharashtra has appointed IAS officer Vikas Pansare as the new Director of the Directorate of Tourism, as part of a recent bureaucratic reshuffle. Pansare formally assumed charge of the position at the Directorate of Tourism office in Mumbai on July 30, 2026.
Prior to this appointment, Pansare served as Managing Director of the Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC), a role in which he was noted for effectively discharging his responsibilities. Over the course of his career, he has held administrative positions across multiple departments of the State Government, gaining broad experience in public administration.
In his new role, Pansare will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Directorate of Tourism’s policies, driving the promotion and publicity of the state’s tourist destinations, and working to reposition Maharashtra as a leading tourism destination on the global map.
Pansare succeeds Mangesh Joshi (IAS), who previously served as Director of the Directorate of Tourism. During his tenure, Joshi focused on strengthening the state’s tourism sector through infrastructure development, wider publicity of tourist destinations, and increased private sector participation in tourism-related initiatives.
