India air traffic slips 4.8% as Asia-Pacific demand also weakens

India’s domestic air passenger traffic fell 4.8% year-on-year to 1.20 crore in July 2026, according to newly released DGCA data, while January-July traffic remained marginally higher at 984.03 lakh passengers, up 0.64%. IndiGo carried 80.82 lakh passengers and raised its market share to 67.4%, while Air India Group held 24%. The slowdown comes amid broader weakness across Asia-Pacific, where IATA reported a 1.7% year-on-year decline in passenger demand in June. ICRA also reported a 31.6% fall in international passenger traffic for Indian carriers during April-May, reflecting disruption from West Asian airspace restrictions.
