From October 1, 2026, all foreign visitors travelling to Mainland Tanzania by air, land or sea will be required to hold valid, government-mandated Inbound Travel Insurance.
The new requirement will apply to international travellers entering Mainland Tanzania through all points of entry. Visitors arriving without the prescribed insurance may be denied entry, making compliance an important consideration for travel agents, tour operators and destination management companies handling Tanzania-bound travellers.
The mandatory insurance is aimed at ensuring that foreign visitors have adequate coverage for unforeseen incidents and medical or travel-related emergencies during their stay in Tanzania.
Travel trade partners are advised to inform clients about the new requirement before departure and ensure that the required insurance is secured through the designated government-approved channel.
