Rajasthan is working to conserve 662 historic havelis in Shekhawati and develop a heritage tourism circuit linking Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said at a heritage summit in Jaipur. The state plans to preserve the buildings’ original architecture and traditional frescoes, while training local artists and craftspeople to participate in conservation work. Sharma also announced a Shekhawati Heritage Meet for December 8 to involve diaspora communities in heritage preservation, tourism development and investment. The havelis were added to UNESCO’s Tentative List in September.
