Asia and the Pacific recorded a 1% rise in international arrivals in the first half of 2026, according to the latest UN Tourism World Tourism Barometer, while South Asia declined 5% year-on-year. The region remained 11% below 2019 levels, with higher airfares, connectivity disruptions and uncertainty affecting intra-regional demand. North-East Asia posted 3% growth, while Southeast Asia declined 1%. Globally, international arrivals reached an estimated 690 million between January and June, up 0.4% from the same period in 2025. After 2% growth in Q1, global arrivals fell 1% in Q2, including a 3% decline in June. UN Tourism has lowered its 2026 growth forecast to 1–2%, from 3–4% earlier.
