Assam to develop INR 477 cr convention centre & state guest house in Guwahati

The Assam government is developing a INR 477 crore Convention Centre-cum-State Guest House along the Brahmaputra riverfront in Guwahati as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s infrastructure for global conferences, official events and premium hospitality.

The upcoming project is expected to become one of Assam’s major administrative and hospitality landmarks, combining large-scale convention facilities with accommodation and guest services for visiting dignitaries, government delegations and international guests. Officials believe the development will support the state’s growing role as a gateway to Northeast India.

Located on the scenic banks of the Brahmaputra River, the project is designed to host international conferences, business summits, cultural events and state functions. The riverfront setting is also expected to enhance Guwahati’s appeal as a destination for MICE tourism — meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

Authorities stated that the project will include modern convention halls, meeting facilities, hospitality spaces and accommodation infrastructure aimed at matching global standards. The integrated complex is expected to improve Assam’s ability to host large national and international gatherings in the future.

The development is part of broader efforts to modernise urban infrastructure in Guwahati and promote tourism, investment and economic activity in the Northeast region. Improved connectivity, rising tourism demand and government-backed development projects have increased attention on Guwahati as a growing business and cultural hub.

Officials believe the Convention Centre-cum-State Guest House will not only strengthen official event infrastructure but also contribute to employment generation, tourism growth and hospitality expansion in Assam over the coming years.
