India’s Northeast is steadily gaining traction as a high-potential hospitality market, with operators looking to blend location-led experiences with premium positioning. Atmosphere Core’s latest signing in Shillong reflects this shift, signalling growing investor confidence in the region’s tourism appeal.
Atmosphere Core has announced its entry into Meghalaya through a strategic partnership with Rocky Dhar to develop DHAR GOLF VISTA by Atmosphere Shillong, an upper upscale boutique hotel scheduled to open in 2027. The property will be located in Shillong, approximately an hour from Shillong Airport, adjacent to the 18-hole Golf Link Arena.
The project marks the company’s expansion into the Northeastern region, aligning with its broader strategy to develop premium hospitality offerings in hill station destinations across India. The hotel will operate under the Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts brand and feature 75 keys, including deluxe rooms, suites, and presidential suites, with views of the golf course, surrounding valleys, and the city.
Focus on experiential and leisure-led hospitality
The property is being positioned to cater to a mix of leisure, corporate, and social event segments. Facilities will include an all-day dining restaurant with outdoor seating, a themed sports pub, and a rooftop resto bar offering local and international cuisine.
Wellness will form a core component of the offering, anchored by the ELE|NA Ayur spa, alongside a swimming pool with a deck overlooking the golf course. Additional amenities include a golf simulation pavilion, kids’ play area, and indoor games room.
Mr Salil Panigrahi, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Atmosphere Core, said, “Our expansion across India is focused on developing premium experiences in hill destinations, particularly in the Northeast. This boutique property in Shillong is being designed to cater to a diverse range of travellers, from leisure to corporate and social gatherings.”
Strategic focus on Northeast India
Shillong, located at an elevation of 1,496 metres, is known for its blend of natural landscapes and cultural heritage, positioning it as an emerging destination for eco-tourism and experiential travel. The development aligns with increasing interest in destinations that offer a combination of nature, culture, and accessibility.
Mr Souvagya Mohapatra, Managing Director, Atmosphere Core India, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, said, “Shillong, with its cultural heritage and natural appeal, is a natural choice for our expansion. This collaboration will help redefine hospitality standards in the region.”
Rocky Dhar, Owner, DHAR GOLF VISTA by Atmosphere, added that the partnership aims to deliver a world-class hospitality experience that will elevate Shillong’s positioning within India’s tourism landscape.
With multiple projects in its development pipeline across India and international markets, Atmosphere Core’s entry into Shillong highlights a growing focus on emerging destinations, where experiential travel and premium hospitality are expected to drive future growth.
