India’s adventure tourism story is entering a defining phase — one where growth must be matched by responsibility. With rising demand for high-adrenaline experiences across mountains, rivers and skies, the spotlight is now firmly on safety, structure and standardisation.
The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) will host a national seminar titled ‘Indian Adventure Tourism: Risk Management’ on May 18, 2026, at The Park Hotel, New Delhi. The initiative aims to bring together key stakeholders to address safety frameworks and risk mitigation strategies across the sector.
Addressing safety in a high-growth sector
Adventure tourism is currently valued at approximately USD 683 billion globally, making it one of the fastest-growing segments in travel. India, with its diverse geography and natural assets, holds strong potential to emerge as a leading global destination.
Recognising this opportunity, ATOAI is focusing on strengthening safety standards and risk management practices as essential enablers for sustainable growth and investor confidence.
Building a unified framework
The seminar will highlight the need for industry-wide standardisation, supported by effective implementation of existing guidelines and the development of uniform regulatory frameworks across states.
The discussions will also emphasise the importance of structured risk management systems to ensure safety across land, water and air-based adventure activities.
Industry and policy leaders to convene
The event will bring together policymakers, state tourism representatives, industry leaders and international experts to deliberate on key areas including:
- Global and Indian best practices in risk management
- Safety frameworks across adventure segments
- Insurance, legal liability and compliance
- Strengthening regulatory mechanisms
- Role of media in shaping perception and awareness
A roadmap for the future
Commenting on the initiative, Ajeet Bajaj, President, ATOAI, said, “India’s immense adventure tourism potential must be anchored in robust risk management and uncompromising safety standards. This seminar is a significant step towards building a unified, future-ready framework that inspires confidence among all stakeholders.”
The seminar is expected to culminate in the formulation of a National Roadmap for Adventure Tourism Risk Management, aligned with global benchmarks and tailored to India’s unique landscape.
With a clear focus on safety, standardisation and collaboration, the initiative marks a significant step towards positioning India among the top global adventure tourism destinations by 2034.
