Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi has issued a health advisory for passengers arriving from Ebola-affected countries. The advisory asks travellers to immediately report to airport health authorities if they experience symptoms linked to the disease. The move is part of strengthened public health monitoring measures introduced by the Union Health Ministry.
The advisory was issued by the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Passengers travelling from countries where Ebola cases have been reported, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan, have been advised to remain cautious and monitor their health closely after arrival in India.
Airport authorities stated that passengers showing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, weakness, muscle pain, sore throat or unexplained bleeding should immediately contact the Airport Health Officer before immigration clearance. Health desks have also been instructed to carry out additional screening wherever necessary.
Officials further advised travellers who may have come into direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of suspected Ebola patients to undergo immediate medical screening. The advisory highlighted that early reporting is important for preventing the spread of infectious diseases through international travel routes.
The notice also mentioned that passengers developing symptoms within 21 days of arriving in India should seek medical attention immediately and inform healthcare providers about their travel history. Authorities stated that proper travel history helps doctors identify potential risks quickly and begin treatment or isolation procedures if required.
The government said the advisory is a precautionary step aimed at strengthening airport surveillance systems and maintaining public health safety. With increasing international travel, health officials are focusing on early detection and monitoring measures at major airports to prevent the entry and spread of infectious diseases.
