India’s DGCA has tightened regulations for foreign airlines, allowing suspension or revocation of licences for safety lapses. Carriers must now appoint local representatives and establish passenger grievance redressal mechanisms, aligning oversight with domestic airlines and strengthening consumer protection across international operations.
The move, announced under DGCA chief Vikram Yadav, extends regulatory oversight previously limited to Indian carriers. Foreign airlines will be held accountable for passenger service standards, including complaint resolution. The changes aim to ensure uniform compliance, improve accountability, and enhance passenger protection in India’s rapidly expanding international aviation market.
