Foreign tourist arrivals in Ladakh nearly double in June

Ladakh recorded a significant rise in tourist arrivals during June 2026, with foreign visitor numbers nearly doubling compared to the same month last year. According to official data, foreign tourist arrivals increased from 3,349 in June 2025 to 6,680 in June 2026, marking a 99.46% year-on-year growth.

Israeli nationals emerged as the largest group of international visitors, followed by travellers from Thailand, the United States, Vietnam, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Malaysia, Australia and several other countries. The surge reflects Ladakh’s growing appeal as a high-altitude adventure destination.

Overall tourist arrivals reached 1,07,740 in June 2026, an increase of 43.48% from 75,089 visitors recorded in June 2025. During the first six months of 2026, Ladakh welcomed 2,25,286 tourists, including 2,11,645 domestic and 13,641 foreign visitors.

The Ladakh administration is working to diversify tourism beyond the traditional summer season by promoting winter tourism, adventure sports, trekking, wildlife tourism, rural tourism, wellness tourism, cultural tourism, spiritual tourism and astro-tourism.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said the latest figures highlight growing confidence among travellers and reflect the administration’s efforts to position Ladakh as a year-round tourism destination while ensuring sustainable and environmentally responsible development.

He added that tourism continues to be a key pillar of Ladakh’s economy, generating livelihoods for hoteliers, homestay operators, tour operators, transporters, trekking guides, artisans and local communities. The tourism growth has also been supported by improved infrastructure and the continued focus on promoting domestic travel.
