Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), in collaboration with Gujarat Tourism, has launched a premium air-conditioned Vista Dome bus service at the Statue of Unity to enhance the travel experience for visitors. The initiative, undertaken under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, aims to promote tourism by offering panoramic views of the state’s landscapes, heritage sites and cultural attractions.
According to the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), five air-conditioned Vista Dome coaches have been manufactured for the first time in India in accordance with international standards. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first service at the Statue of Unity and took a ride in the specially designed vehicle. The coaches feature transparent dome-shaped roofs, allowing passengers to enjoy views of the sky and surrounding scenery while travelling in air-conditioned comfort.
Each bus has a seating capacity of 23 passengers, with revolving, fully adjustable reclining seats and a separate driver’s seat. Onboard amenities include a premium LED Smart TV, CCTV cameras, tea and coffee-making facilities, a mini refrigerator and mobile charging points. The coaches are also equipped with an advanced fire detection and suppression system, toughened glass and emergency hammers to enhance passenger safety.
The exteriors feature graphics showcasing Gujarat’s prominent tourist attractions, including the Statue of Unity, Akshardham, Somnath Temple, Dwarka Temple, Gir National Park, Adalaj Stepwell, the White Rann of Dhordo, Tarnetar Fair and Vijay Vilas Palace. The design aims to highlight the state’s diverse tourism offerings while providing visitors with a distinctive travel experience.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said similar services would be introduced in phases at other tourist destinations and heritage routes across Gujarat. Each Vista Dome coach costs INR 2.19 crore. Of the five buses planned under the initiative, two have been inaugurated, while the remaining three are expected to enter service within the next two months. Passengers can book tickets through the official GSRTC website.
The state government expects the service to improve tourist transport infrastructure and offer domestic and international visitors another way to explore Gujarat’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and historical landmarks. The initiative forms part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen tourism facilities and develop more engaging travel experiences across its destinations.
