Tourist arrivals in Himachal Pradesh have picked up pace despite a delayed start to the summer season, leading to improved hotel occupancy across the state. Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) reported that occupancy at its hotels has risen to 70 per cent this year, compared to 63 per cent during the same period last year. “Although the summer holiday season started later this year, tourist inflow has gained momentum steadily. Occupancy in HPTDC hotels has increased from 63 per cent last year to 70 per cent this year, reflecting strong demand from travellers once vacations began in neighbouring states,” said Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director, HPTDC. He noted that delayed school holidays in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh shifted the peak travel period but did not dampen tourism demand.
