India’s domestic air passenger demand fell 7.5% year-on-year in August, the sharpest contraction among the six major domestic markets tracked by IATA. Capacity declined 1.2%, pushing India’s passenger load factor down 5.4 percentage points to 78.7%, the lowest among those markets. The decline followed a 5.2% fall in domestic RPK in July. Across Asia-Pacific, total passenger demand still increased 1.4% year-on-year, although international demand slipped 0.1%. Traffic on intra-Asia routes fell 2%, while Asia-North America traffic grew 2.5%. Globally, passenger demand declined 0.8% in August, while capacity rose 0.3%. IATA said October forward schedules indicate 2% growth in available seats. The data provides a fresh readout for airlines, travel agents and aviation stakeholders on regional demand patterns.
