Indian Railways launches affordable Amrit Bharat trains

Indian Railways is set to introduce two new Amrit Bharat Express trains from Uttar Pradesh, aiming to improve connectivity while offering affordable travel options for passengers. These trains are designed to deliver a comfortable experience similar to premium services but at a lower cost, targeting lower and lower-middle income groups.

The newly announced services will operate on two key routes—between Banaras and Hadapsar, and between Ayodhya Cantt and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai. These routes are expected to strengthen rail links between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, benefiting both daily commuters and long-distance travellers.

The Banaras–Hadapsar Amrit Bharat Express will run daily, with its inaugural journey scheduled for April 28, 2026. Officials stated that the service has been introduced to enhance passenger convenience and provide more travel choices on high-demand routes.

Amrit Bharat Express trains are positioned as a more economical alternative to premium services like Vande Bharat Express. While they may not offer the same high-speed features, they aim to deliver improved comfort, better facilities, and reliable service at a more accessible price point.

The launch reflects a broader effort by Indian Railways to expand affordable mobility solutions while modernising its network. By introducing such services, the railway system continues to balance accessibility with quality, ensuring that a wider segment of the population benefits from improved transportation.

Overall, these new trains are expected to boost regional connectivity, ease travel demand, and provide cost-effective options for millions of passengers travelling between key cities in northern and western India.
