India has approximately 161,000 proposed branded hotel rooms against an existing inventory of 209,180, according to Hotelivate–Savills’ 2026 Indian Hospitality Trends & Opportunities report. Nearly 117,000 proposed rooms are in active development, representing around 77% of existing supply. Almost half the pipeline is concentrated in tier III markets, where average occupancy is 57%, compared with 75% in tier I cities. The report cautions that market-specific demand assessments will be critical to avoid oversupply.
