India recorded 428.55 crore domestic tourist visits in 2025, with tourism’s foreign-exchange earnings reaching ₹2,76,831 crore, according to the Ministry of Tourism’s latest World Tourism Day factsheet. Foreign tourist visits rose to 2.53 crore, while tourism contributed 5.22% to GDP and supported 8.46 crore jobs in 2023-24. Health and medical trips accounted for about 30%. Business trips recorded the highest average household expenditure per overnight trip at ₹5,949 during the preceding 30 days, according to the official survey.
