India’s UPI Payments Now Accepted Across Cambodia Nationwide

Indian travellers can now make seamless digital payments across Cambodia using UPI-enabled applications. The facility allows users to scan KHQR codes, Cambodia’s national QR payment system, at more than 4.5 million merchant outlets, including restaurants, retail stores, tourist attractions and various service establishments across the country.

The initiative has been launched through a partnership between NPCI International Payments Limited and ACLEDA Bank Plc. The collaboration enables Indian visitors to use familiar UPI payment apps while travelling in Cambodia, making transactions faster, safer and more convenient.

The launch marks the first phase of a broader cross-border payment linkage between India and Cambodia. The announcement was made in Phnom Penh in the presence of Chea Serey and representatives of the Reserve Bank of India, highlighting the growing financial cooperation between the two nations.

In the next phase, Cambodian travellers will also be able to make payments at millions of UPI QR-enabled merchant outlets across India using their domestic banking applications. This reciprocal arrangement is expected to create a fully interoperable payment corridor between the two countries.

According to industry leaders, the initiative will improve travel convenience, reduce dependence on cash and minimise issues related to currency exchange. Merchants in Cambodia are also expected to benefit from greater access to Indian tourists and improved digital transaction management.

The partnership represents another major step in the global expansion of India’s digital payments ecosystem. By enabling secure, real-time and interoperable transactions, the initiative is expected to strengthen tourism, trade and economic ties between India and Cambodia while promoting greater financial inclusion.
