Infra development around anchor destinations key to India’s $3 tn tourism goal: Anurag Thakur

Developing robust local ecosystems around anchor tourist destinations is vital to achieving India’s targeted $3 trillion tourism economy by 2047, said Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament, at the FAITH Conclave 2026. Using the iconic Dharamshala cricket stadium as an example, Thakuremphasised that creating supporting infrastructure, such as high-end hotels, cultural centres, and seamless connectivity is what transforms a single attraction into a sustainable regional economic engine.

Highlighting this strategic necessity, he stated, An anchor attraction like the Dharamshala stadium is a global ambassador, but true economic growth happens when we develop the surrounding ecosystem. Building the area around major destinations encourages visitors to stay longer, explore local culture, and directly uplift small businesses.
