Kaziranga Heritage, a 28-key retreat in Assam, has opened with a focus on heritage, wilderness and destination-led hospitality. Launched in March 2026, the property brings together the historic Bonani bungalow, Assamese architecture and cuisine, local craftsmanship and curated experiences around Kaziranga.
The property has been developed around the Bonani bungalow, which has guest records dating back to 1938. The historic structure has been preserved and integrated into the contemporary retreat, reflecting the property’s approach of combining heritage with modern hospitality.
Located in Kaziranga, the retreat comprises four accommodation categories: Bonani, Bonoshree, Kohora River View Cottages and Kunjobon Presidential Suites & Duplexes. Each category is positioned around a different aspect of the destination, with Bonani linked to the property’s history, Bonoshree focused on Assamese art and culture, and Kohora offering views of the river and surrounding landscape. The Kunjobon units feature private plunge pools and personalised butler service.
The property incorporates Assam-inspired architectural elements including deep verandahs, sloping roofs, bamboo, wood and woven materials. Contemporary interpretations of traditional Assamese design elements such as the Jaapi have also been incorporated into the interiors.
Its culinary offering is centred on Kazinemu, which focuses on traditional Assamese cuisine, indigenous ingredients and woodfire cooking, with influences from Southeast Asian cuisine. The menu includes Assamese thalis, regional ingredients and contemporary interpretations of traditional dishes. Tea-based cocktails have also been incorporated into the beverage programme, drawing on Assam’s tea heritage.
Beyond the property, guests can access jeep and elephant safaris, birding experiences, tea garden visits, cultural performances and local interactions. The retreat also offers access to attractions including Kaziranga Orchid and Biodiversity Park, Kakochang Waterfall, the Karbi Hills and river excursions.
The property is backed by a public-private partnership between Centrepoint Group Enterprise – Hospitality (CPGE-Hospitality) and Assam Tourism. The partnership is aimed at supporting Assam’s positioning as a luxury tourism destination, with the property focusing on local craftsmanship, responsible sourcing, cultural preservation and destination-led experiences.
Since its launch, Kaziranga Heritage has also been recognised by Condé Nast Traveller India as the new avatar of Kaziranga’s oldest tourist lodge.
With its heritage-led positioning and focus on experiences beyond the traditional wildlife itinerary, the property is looking to attract travellers seeking a deeper engagement with Assam’s culture, landscape and wilderness.
