Kenya has introduced mandatory health insurance for international visitors as part of measures to strengthen health preparedness following confirmation of an imported Ebola case. Under the new requirement, travellers must purchase insurance online while applying for the Kenya electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA). The insurance costs US$44, excluding the applicable payment gateway fee, taking the total cost to approximately US$52 per person. The requirement adds a new travel-related cost for international visitors as Kenya strengthens health surveillance and response measures.
