Major League Baseball has officially awarded the 2028 MLB All-Star Game, presented by Mastercard, along with accompanying All-Star Week events, to the San Francisco Giants. The 2028 edition will mark Baseball’s 98th Midsummer Classic, with the Giants set to commemorate the announcement during their home game against the Colorado Rockies.
Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred Jr. said MLB was pleased to award the 2028 All-Star Game to the Giants, citing the franchise’s passionate fanbase, world-class ballpark and rich baseball history as key factors in making San Francisco an outstanding host for All-Star Week, which culminates in one of the league’s most cherished traditions. He added that MLB looks forward to bringing the excitement of All-Star Week and the broader celebration of baseball to the Bay Area.
Giants President and CEO Larry Baer said the organization was deeply honored to host the 2028 All-Star Game at Oracle Park, expressing excitement at welcoming the baseball world to San Francisco to showcase the city, the franchise and its passionate fanbase. He thanked Major League Baseball for the opportunity and said the team looks forward to creating a memorable All-Star experience for fans both locally and from around the world.
Oracle Park, which previously hosted the All-Star Game in 2007, will become the eighth active ballpark to host the Midsummer Classic multiple times, joining a list that includes Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium, Progressive Field, Coors Field and T-Mobile Park. This will mark the fourth time the Giants franchise has hosted the All-Star Game overall.
The Giants’ All-Star hosting history includes several notable moments. Candlestick Park hosted the first All-Star Game of the 1961 season, featuring Giants legends Willie Mays and Orlando Cepeda alongside Roberto Clemente in the National League’s winning lineup, while Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle started for the American League during their historic home run chase that season. Candlestick also hosted the 1984 Midsummer Classic, which featured standout performances from MVP Gary Carter and Hall of Famer George Brett, along with a strong showing from reigning back-to-back NL MVP Dale Murphy. More recently, Oracle Park’s 2007 All-Star Game saw Ichiro Suzuki hit the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star history en route to MVP honors, while also marking the 14th and final All-Star appearance of Giants legend Barry Bonds, whose godfather and franchise icon Willie Mays was honored during the pregame ceremony.
Looking ahead, the 2027 All-Star Game, also presented by Mastercard, is scheduled to take place at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on Tuesday, July 13. This will mark the fourth time the Cubs have hosted the Midsummer Classic at Wrigley Field, following previous editions in 1947, 1962 and 1990. With this upcoming game, Wrigley Field—which opened in 1914—will become the only active ballpark, and just the third in MLB history, to host four All-Star Games, joining Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium and New York’s Yankee Stadium in that distinction.
