Nagaland promotes 17 district-level Mini Hornbill festivals to decentralise tourism and visitor spending

Nagaland is expanding its festival tourism offering through 17 district-level Mini Hornbill festivals, enabling each Naga tribe to showcase its cultural traditions and attract visitors beyond Kohima, said Kovi Meyase, NCS Commissioner & Secretary Tourism and Land Resources, Nagaland at ITM 2026. The initiative aligns local tribal celebrations with tourism promotion across the state’s 17 administrative districts. Festivals include Aoleang Monyu in April, Moatsu in May, Tokhu Emong in November and Sekrenyi in February. The move creates opportunities for travel operators to develop district-specific cultural itineraries around traditional celebrations. The state is also promoting rural homestays, indigenous experiences and community-led tourism to distribute visitor activity across destinations.
