Just over two weeks after commencing commercial operations on June 15, Noida International Airport (NIA) is set to increase its daily flight operations from 12 to around 40–45 from July 1, expanding its network from five cities to 16-17 domestic destinations. IndiGo will lead the expansion, with new services to Mumbai, Srinagar, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Dehradun, Dharamshala, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Bareilly, Bhopal and Pantnagar, among others.
The rapid scale-up follows a 10-day stabilisation period during which the airport addressed early operational challenges, including glitches in e-gates, DigiYatra integration and air-conditioning systems. Airport officials said the phased launch enabled teams to rectify these teething issues before increasing traffic volumes.
The airport, designed to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually in its first phase, will begin terminal expansion once it reaches 80% capacity utilisation.
Looking ahead, NIA is also in discussions with Indian and international airlines to launch overseas services. The airport authority is in touch with international airlines to begin international flight operations shortly.
While operational systems have largely stabilised, airport authorities acknowledged that external challenges remain, particularly expensive app-based cab fares and limited public transport options, which continue to affect local passenger traffic despite connectivity through the Yamuna Expressway and AC electric bus services.
